Is TOGAF worth it? What’s all the fuss about? And exactly what skills will TOGAF add to your portfolio? At EA Learning, we offer online and classroom-based TOGAF courses that are built and delivered by industry professionals. This means that you have experienced mentors in the acquisition and application of your new TOGAF skills. But first – TOGAF, is it worth it?
TOGAF is a game-changing business architecture tool that’s been around since the early 1990s. The characteristics of businesses and the technologies employed there have changed a lot over that period, and the TOGAF framework has remained flexible enough to meet the challenges that come up along the way.
TOGAF allows you to gain an overview of the assets within your business, and to simplify their processes. This allows you to leverage those assets, marrying technology with business goals, and providing a game plan that the whole business can follow.
TOGAF can be useful to both you and your workplace. The Open Group, who invented TOGAF, say that TOGAF is used in most Global 50 and Fortune 500 companies – this means that acquiring TOGAF certification sets you apart as a high-quality employee. It also means that your business can operate on a new level of efficiency, to achieve its goals and realise success.

TOGAF Standard, Version 9.2 is a great improvement on Version 9.1. The materials and flow in the latest release now has a more understandable, direct bearing on architecture practice and architecture consulting in general. The latest release supports the primacy of business thinking in architecture rather than a focus on IT, which was often how enterprise architecture has been seen.
The major changes that have been released in TOGAF Standard Version 9.2 include;
TOGAF 9 certified practitioners do not have to sit a new exam (as was the case with the bridge from 8 to 9). The additional or changed material is extremely useful and valuable to learn. If you would like to show that you have “up-to-date knowledge”, then The Open Group has introduced the TOGAF Essentials 2018 credential that leads to an open badge.
