Karl’s mission is to give real world Enterprise Architecture insights to aspiring professionals. He is in a unique position to share these insights as he has systematically worked through the many facets of the IT Operating Model over his career. Starting on the Helpdesk of the 90’s, he then progressed to Systems Engineering on projects in the late 90’s before becoming an IT consultant and Microsoft Certified Trainer in the early 00’s. He then moved between running his own training company in Fiji and consulting on projects for IBM into major banking clients in Australia.
Karl then changed perspective and began to focus on strategy and planning as an Enterprise Architect, applying practical techniques from several bodies of knowledge including BABOK, TOGAF, PRINCE2 and ITIL to formulate Architecture Portfolios of change that could guide investment and implementation. These portfolios were predominantly within the Mineral and Mining, Utilities and Insurance sectors.
In summary, Karl has progressed his career through the full IT Value Chain of concerns from business requirements, strategic and tactical IT plans through to building systems and finally to ongoing support (Plan, Build, Run). He also has a passion for training professionals. His career path has allowed Karl to bring practical experience to the classroom to help his students understand both the theory and real-world application of the subjects that he teaches.
Karl is a highly experienced trainer who has interweaved his training experience with a career in the Technology industry. He holds an Assessment and Workplace training Certificate IV. This is coupled with 5 years full-time classroom experience training IT professionals on TOGAF 9.1 and various Microsoft Engineering Platforms.
