Karl is an experienced instructor with over 20 years of teaching experience across Systems Engineering and Enterprise Architecture learning tracks. With a career spanning more than 30 years in the IT industry, Karl combines deep practical knowledge with a passion for helping professionals apply theory in real-world contexts.

His mission is to provide hands-on Enterprise Architecture insights that empower learners to bridge the gap between frameworks and practice. To achieve this, Karl has earned a range of professional credentials, including assessment and workplace training qualifications, as well as internationally recognised certifications from The Open Group and Microsoft.

Karl began his career in the Australian banking sector, working closely with the Big Four banks. He thrives in complex architecture environments and has held Enterprise Architecture team lead roles throughout his career. His professional journey includes progressing through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd level IT operational support roles, before moving into Solution Architecture projects with IBM. This breadth of experience was later consolidated through training and consulting in Enterprise Architecture for a wide range of clients.

Throughout his career, Karl has helped organisations establish and enhance their Enterprise Architecture capabilities, implement contemporary EA tools, and uplift overall maturity across teams. In his classes, he brings this experience to life through practical examples and interactive discussions designed to make complex concepts clear, relevant, and engaging.

Karl has been delivering professional training for more than 20 years, specialising in Systems Engineering and Enterprise Architecture learning tracks. Over this time, he has facilitated courses ranging from foundational networking and systems design to advanced Enterprise Architecture and tooling workshops.

He has delivered a wide range of industry-recognised certification programs including TOGAF® 9.1, 9.2, and the TOGAF® Standard, 10th Edition, Applied Business Architecture, ArchiMate® 2.1, 3.0, 3.1, and 3.2, IT4IT®, and TOGAF® Business Architecture.

Karl has taught both public and private classes internationally and has partnered with leading training providers to upskill Business Architects (BA), Enterprise Architects (EA), and Solution Architects (SA). His consulting and training engagements span multiple sectors including banking and finance, mining and resources, major utilities, retail, Tier 1 IT service providers, the IT reseller channel, and a national automobile club.

To support his professional practice, Karl has earned formal workplace training certifications and holds internationally recognised credentials across EA and SA disciplines. These achievements have enabled him to deliver consistent, high-quality instruction and to mentor professionals seeking globally respected certification outcomes.

Participants regularly commend Karl for his structured yet practical teaching style, noting his ability to simplify complex topics and connect theory with real-world application.

Karl’s training style is highly adaptable to the needs of each class. He uses clear illustrations to help learners grasp complex concepts and often enjoys applying the “See-One, Do-One, Teach-One” approach to the “follow-the-leader” approach during hands-on lab sessions. Particularly effective in technical courses such as ArchiMate® tooling. He recognises that some topics can be quite detailed, so he focuses on keeping learners engaged through patience, practical examples, and interactive discussion.

For Karl, the most rewarding moments in the classroom occur when learners connect what they’ve learned to their professional practice and say, “I can use this in my career.” Seeing participants recognise the value and relevance of Enterprise Architecture principles in their everyday work is what motivates his teaching.

Karl likens the teaching process to cooking. Starting with a concept, crafting a recipe, and preparing a meal that’s both satisfying and memorable. Much like his passion for slow-cooked barbeque, he approaches learning with care and precision: planning thoughtfully, pacing deliberately, and ensuring every learner enjoys the experience from start to finish.
