Alan Simmonds

Career Summary

Alan Simmonds has over 25 years’ experience in the IT industry, focusing mainly in the area of information strategy, governance and enterprise architecture. He has also been instrumental in setting up two successful companies.

He has played a key role for two global organisations in helping them to understand, adopt and implement governance processes - one involved ensuring that a major UK bank met the requirements of the FSA and the second involved creating the governance schedules and defining the governance for a major French industrial gas organisation's global telecommunications outsourcing contract. Both included the establishing of the correct structures and the change programmes required to embed these.

His experience in a number of industries, particularly the banking sector, allows him to integrate with projects and clients across industry sectors.

His MBA dissertation 'Technology Governance - A Model for Enablement and Advantage', brings together his considerable understanding of information management and strategy with current business thinking into strategy and competitive advantage highlighting the value and usage of information in this mix. More recently, his LLM supports the ongoing requirement to understand and address legislative and policy obligations from organization through to national level.

Training Philosophy

Anyone can read the book – good training is about imparting insight, experience and real examples of where we’ve failed and just as importantly where we’ve succeeded. Training is the event, practicing is the journey and carrying the book weighs you down by nearly 2 kilos!

"It was quite interesting to get a business architecture overview and Alan was great in relating the concepts with real scenarios. The concepts in this course also form a good precursor to the upcoming TOGAF course."
