Exam Information

In order to achieve the complete ITIL® 4 Strategic Leader qualification, you must pass the official examinations for ITIL® 4 Foundation, ITIL® 4 DPI, and ITIL® 4 DITS. You can take the exams online (virtually) using a service provided by PeopleCert.

Once you complete each course in this suite, you will be ready to start preparing for the exams. To support you with this, each course contains two practice exams that will simulate the conditions of the real thing. This suite also comes with the required 3 x exam vouchers!

Before booking an exam, it will be a good idea to make sure that your device meets the technical requirements. Please visit the PeopleCert website for more information and guidance.

When you are ready to use each of your free exam vouchers, simply contact support. Exam voucher requests are typically processed within 2 working days but please allow up to 5. Students must request their exam voucher within the suite access period which starts from the date of purchase.

ITIL® 4 Foundation exam:

  • This is a multiple-choice ‘Objective Test Question’ (OTQ) exam consisting of 40 questions
  • There is a time limit of 60 minutes to complete the exam
  • The exam is closed book, with only the provided materials being permitted for use
  • The pass mark for the exam is 65%: you must get 26 out of 40 questions correct
  • In countries where English is a second language, the time allocated for the exam is extended to 75 minutes

ITIL® 4 DPI exam:

  • This is a multiple choice ‘Objective Test Question’ (OTQ) exam consisting of 40 questions
  • There is a time limit of 90 minutes to complete the exam
  • The exam is closed book, with only the provided materials being permitted for use
  • The pass mark for the exam is 70%: you must get 28 out of 40 questions correct
  • In countries where English is a second language, the time allocated for the exam is extended to 113 minutes

ITIL® 4 DITS assessment

During the training, students will take case-study-based assignments. These assignments will be graded according to the assessment matrix.

  • Four assignments of 60 minutes each with a pass mark of 75%
  • The assignments are open-book

ITIL® 4 DITS exam:

At the end of the training course, students are asked to complete a multiple-choice examination. Candidates must pass the case study assessments in order to take the exam. If a candidate fails the first assessment, they may be given an additional written assignment based on the same case study.

  • Online multiple-choice proctored exam with a duration of 60 minutes
  • The exam is closed-book, with only the provided materials being permitted for use
  • The pass mark for the exam is 70%: you must get 21 out of 30 questions correct
  • In countries where English is a second language, the time allocated for the exam is extended to 75 minutes

Digital Credentials:

After passing both exams, you’ll earn the ITIL® 4 Foundation badge, ITIL® 4 DPI badge, ITIL® DITS Badge and the ITIL® 4 Strategic Leader badge. You can proudly display these on your LinkedIn profile to showcase your achievement and expertise.

If a candidate has already passed the ITIL® DPI exam as part of the ‘ITIL® Managing Professional (MP)’ stream, they will not need to take the exam a second time.

What does the ITIL® certification path look like?

Students start with ‘ITIL® Foundation’. Passing the Foundation exam then enables them to choose modules in the ‘ITIL® Managing Professional’ or ‘ITIL® Strategic Leader’ streams. After passing all intermediate modules, students can then move on to the rank of ‘ITIL® Master’.
